To encounter the eternal spirit of Shams Tabrizi in the here and now a number of prerequisites must be considered.

1. You must believe that the spirit of guidance that infused his temporal body is still here, available. You don’t have to understand how, you just need the intuitive conviction that this is so.  

2. You must have faith in the “oracular function”—the idea that our inner reality is sometimes reflected clearly in the world around us, speaking to us via signs, coincidences, etc. Jung’s “synchronicity” is a variation on this. 

3. You must have a device, a medium of some sort through which this meeting can occur. Here the medium is a random selection from his “40 Rules of Love”, available in various contemporary translations around the web.

4. You must have a real need or longing; some active, pressing issue or situation in which you must find a more grounded spiritual response.

5. You must be in a state of receptive grace; not so much asking him to “speak” to you but patiently awaiting his advice, which you have committed yourself to follow.

Take your time, reflect on these conditions. If you sincerely feel you meet these requirements  Shams may bless you with his counsel.
